Placename

Gaelic name: Uaimhean Dubha

Name in Original Source: Uaimhean Dubh

English meaning: Black caves

Placename feature: Cave

Notes: Rather than caves in the truest sense of the word, these are more like gaps in the rocks on the west cfLoch Toghsgaig shoreline. At high tide, they were big enough for smugglers' boats to enter, and to hide in to escape the Excise cutter. Name given by Roderick Gillanders to the Scottish Place Name Survey, May 1971. Co-ordinates are approximate for this feature
