Applecross Placenames Project

Placename

Gaelic name: West Park

Name in Original Source: West Park

English meaning: West Park

Placename feature: Field

Notes: Slightly upriver from the Sea pool, this is another key fishing spot on the lower reaches of the Applecross River near the current road bridge. No Gaelic version of this name has been recorded. Since the movement of the Clan chief/Estate owner to the newly constructed Applecross House in c1675, this area was virtually 'off-limits' to the general population, so any Gaelic name may have been quietly forgotten, or would not have been spoken of if poaching was ongoing
