Applecross Placenames Project

Placename

Gaelic name: Phollag, A'

Name in Original Source: Am Pollaig

English meaning: The little pool

Placename feature: Sea pool

Notes: There is a gash in a large rock slab on the shore (just behind the house that was the home of Mrs Annie Fraser (nee Finlayson) and her family when she was a very young girl) that stays filled with water when the tide goes out. This name only appears on a hand-drawn map that Mrs Fraser gave to the Applecross Historical Society. It should be noted that Mrs Fraser records this as Am Pollaig as if it were a masculine noun
