Placename

Gaelic name: Garbh-linn [?]

Name in Original Source: Garalin

English meaning: Rough pool

Placename feature: Shore

Notes: The spelling and meaning of this name is unclear. It is associated with water off the beach of big boulders which lies north of, and behind, Rubh' na Lachan. It was one of the favourite places for transference of catches from one fishing boat to another. One boat would take the catches of two or three others from there to Kyle of Lochalsh. Commonly used during a southerly or south-easterly wind. Such boats involved would be the Seaflower, the Constance and the Golden Dawn.

This name appears in an undated list compiled by Kenneth Macrae F.S.A. Scot., (1903-1982) and held by the Applecross Historical Society, in which it is recorded as Garbhlinn.
