Applecross Placenames Project

Placename

Gaelic name: Glac Fhearchair

Name in Original Source: Glac Fhearchair

English meaning: Farquhar's hollow

Placename feature: Hollow

Notes: Glac Fhearchair is a small defile or hollow which is a spur off Sloc na Beinne (or Sloc na Beiste). It turns to run in a south-south-east direction whereas Sloc na Beinne turns more north-east and upwards into the hill in comparison to the orientation given on standard Ordnance Survey maps. Certainly, this is the way the crofters used to see it as they walked up into the hill looking for sheep. Information from Duncan Murchison, 24th October 2012
