Applecross Placenames Project

Placename

Gaelic name: Galloway Beag

Name in Original Source: Galloway Beag

English meaning: Little Galloway

Placename feature: Woodland

Notes: From the English name, although it is unclear how it came to be used in Applecross. These are the four very tall fir trees which stand in the southernmost corner of the Cuil Dubh a' Chill fields just inside the boundary wall. Deliberately planted, but no-one seems to know why. (Sandy Cameron, 18/08/2001)
