Placename
Gaelic name: Galloway Mòr
Name in Original Source: Galloway Mòr
English meaning: Big Galloway
Placename feature: Woodland
Notes: From the English name, although it is unclear how it came to be used in Applecross. This refers to the area and trees just beside (and to the north of) croft number 1 - the Fraser house - the most northerly house in Cuil Dubh a' Chill. (Sandy Cameron, 18/08/2001) More accurately, it probably refers to the Scots pines in that location. The trees are also referred to by Mrs Annie Fraser, who was raised in that house, as A' Choille (q.v.)
