Placename

Gaelic name: Creag Lachaidh

Name in Original Source: Creag Lachaidh

English meaning: Lachie's rock

Placename feature: Rock

Notes: This place was also known as Iodhlainn Sheòic (q.v.), names for a place which no longer exists. It was a rock on a corner on the road to An Àird Dhubh, before the point where the bins are today (2012). It was a place where stocks of corn and hay were kept. The rock was blasted away when the road was made in the 1940s. Tinker carts were generally small so they could get past Iodhlann Sheòic, but larger carts had to cross An Caigeann (q.v.). The 'Seòc' who is named here was John Gillanders of Toscaig (c1856-1929).
