Placename

Gaelic name: Easan Dubh

Name in Original Source: Easan Dubh

English meaning: Little black waterfall

Placename feature: Waterfall

Notes: This is a small, sheer-faced waterfall, which is of black rock, near the letter box in Lower Toscaig. It was supposed to be haunted by a ghost when Rhoda Cameron was small, although this was probably just a story to stop the children from straying out of the village and away from home. The ruin next to it, on a ledge above the road, was a barn used by Colin Gordon (1895-1963) rather than a house. The house now known as Taigh a' Chreagain was originally built by Lady Middleton for Bell Gordon, Colin's mother. (Rhoda Cameron, 27/12/2000)
