Placename
Gaelic name: Eilean na Bà
Name in Original Source: Eilean na Bà
English meaning: Cow island
Placename feature: Island
Notes: It is a surprisingly large island which lies to the south of Coillie Ghillie, and north of Na h-Eileanan Chròlaigeach. At one time it was inhabited by the MacRae ancestors of Murdo Duncan, Ally, etc. One of these ancestors, Danny a’ Bhachaill, was legendary for making whisky and had a still there, but he actually drowned on the way home from Duirinish where he’d gone to get whisky for his own wedding.
