Placename

Gaelic name: Clach a' Mhàil (2)

Name in Original Source: Clach a' Mhàil (2)

English meaning: The rent stone

Placename feature: Rock

Notes: (2) On an Admiralty Chart of the 1851, a Clach a' Mhàil (recorded as Clachavale) is marked on the land just south of where one would expect to find Creag na h-Iolaire (q.v.) There are a couple of very prominent boulders on that ground, probably deposited by glaciers during the last Ice Age; there is also what appears to be a circle of stones on a flat stony top to the hill in the area where this feature is marked
