Placename

Gaelic name: Clais nam Feadan

Name in Original Source: Clais nam Feadan

English meaning: Hollow of the streams

Placename feature: Hollow

Notes: Roderick Gillanders, Toscaig, provides this name to Ian Fraser, Scottish Place Name Survey, in May 1971. It is a small hollow or gulley through which a small stream runs before entering the sea on the eastern shore of cfLoch Toghsgaig, but Gillanders suggests that it really applies to a number of small arable plots in the hollow which were cultivated in former times. Aerial photographs of the area show a lot of evidence of agriculture and the ruins of a fank and stone dykes
