Notes: Applecross Estate Sale Brochure, July 1887: The principal beat [of Applecross Deer Forest] is Carn Dearg, the red cairn of stones, which may be entered upon about a quarter of a mile from the House, and which extends for about five miles to the top of Beinn Bhan. It affords first-rate stalking ground,with plenty of deer always upon it, and is very easy to work.
