Placename
Gaelic name: Blàr Dubh
Name in Original Source: Blàr Dubh
English meaning: Black plain
Placename feature: Field
Notes: An area of ground showing signs of cultivation, as it has retaining walls around it and an overgrown channel or ditch through it. This area of ground is immediately south of the current (2012) Applecross village hall, lying between the fork of the Camusteel road and the main road south to Camusterrach. The name could mean several things, but is most likely something like 'The Black Field'. The place name is mentioned in the notes section of ‘Gaelic songs of Mary MacLeod’ by J.Carmichael Watson.
