Placename

Gaelic name: Bùth na Banntraich

Name in Original Source: Bùth a' Bhanntraich

English meaning: The widow's shop

Placename feature: Man-made feature

Notes: In Lower Toscaig, around the area of Am Baile Meadhanach are a collection of old stone barns. One of these, immediately south of the bridge leading to the modern house called Rowanbank is the building once called Bùth na Banntraich, although it was told to me as the grammatically incorrect Bùth a' Bhanntraich. This widow was a Kennedy, and she is referred to in William Murchison's autobiography Master in sail
