Applecross Placenames Project

Placename

Gaelic name: Cadha Cumhang

Name in Original Source: Cadha Cumhang

English meaning: Narrow path

Placename feature: Path

Notes: This is a very steep and rocky - yet short, c20 yards - section of track that immediately follows Cadha nan Griasaichean (q.v.) on the approach to the cross-roads which takes the walker south to Coille Ghillie (q.v.) or west towards An Àird Bhàn (q.v.) Carts could not negotiate this section of the track, so their loads had to be removed, and then the wheels and axles taken off the carts before everything was put back together for the onward journey from the bottom of the Cadha Cumhang [Dr Alexander K. Gillies' list compiled for the Applecross Historical Society, date unknown]
