Placename
Gaelic name: Apple Cross
Name in Original Source: Apple Cross
English meaning: Applecross
Placename feature: Settlement
Notes: Possibly suggests supposed site of the four cross trees of Applecross? (The grid references on these plans can be easily read to eight digits.)
W. J. Watson's notes: 203: The holy well by the roadside, west of Applecross House, is unfortuantely nameless. Near it are the four tres in the form of an oblong, which, with a (supposed) crab-apple tree in the centre, were absurdly propounded as the origin of the name Applecross. This is the supposed site of Maelruba's cell, and is called Lagan na Comraich, the little hollow of the sanctuary.
